Three Cheers and Three Boos -- 10/24/10

Greetings and welcome to the land of the progressives. This is the Adirondack Howler for Tuesday, October 26th, 2010.

Three Cheers of the Week

1) To Julian Assange and his WikiLeaks staff for releasing to international media outlets an estimated 400,000 documents related to the war in Iraq. This is a level of courage resembling the deeds of Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers 39 years earlier.

2) To the group Voices for Creative Nonviolence for their trip to Bamiyan Province in Afghanistan to provide at least a realistic glimpse of life in this war torn country. I want to see more people perform this kind of service to our world.

3) To Congressmember Peter DeFazio of Oregon for proposing impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts for leading the charge in the Citizens United case, opening the spigots of corporate cash to influence elections.

Three Boos of the Week

1) To Charles and David Koch for using millions to buy elections, thanks to Citizens United, to insure that working people do no get their fair share of the economic pie.

2) To Fox News Channel for its inexcusable defense of Juan Williams who was fired from NPR for his inappropriate comments about Muslims in general.

3) To Joe Miller, the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate in Alaska, for allowing a journalist to be detained and arrested. I ask you, Mr. Miller, what are you afraid of?

That is all I have time for today.  I will return again next time with more news from the progressive world. This is the Adirondack Howler signing off on the 278th day of the Citizens United decision in the Supreme Court which opened the spigots of corporate cash and poisoned the well of our democracy.
